Lesson plan of the project: Planning a travel with Genially

Group level: 3 Eso

Timing: 5 sessions

Vocabulary: places in town, modes of transport, travel

Grammar: future tenses (will/be going to/ present simple)

One thing I have learned is that students love to talk about travels and plans. Even more so, students love talking to people who are going to visit their home country. Travel lessons are some of my favorite activities… mostly because I love to travel. Watching these types of lessons unfold with a multilingual, multilevel classroom warms my heart because there is always something for everyone. This “Let’s take a trip” lesson is a great project when you are looking for authentic and engaging activities.

In this lesson, students will be given a budget and they have to find a destination suitable for that budget. Besides, they will be required to do a variety of tasks that organise a vacation planning. The lesson begins with an activity that elicits vacation-related vocabulary, and where they are given a wide range of online tools, websites, and programmes to develop their project. Then students will move on to a reading exercise that will test their reading comprehension in order to find the best places in the town they have chosen. Following this, students will participate in a presentation exercise. To conclude the lesson, students will have the chance to share their ideas and opinions about their holiday planning.

Creating and stimulating reading habits make a person capable of generating new thoughts, new words, and new expressions in their mind. Reading fosters the necessity of writing, as well as of keeping our minds organised. But... what about reading in English? It is essential to make our students aware of the importance of reading in English, not just because English is useful but because the world becomes smaller when you know how to read in English. We are living in an era in which we are surrounded by information (info overload), and genuine information is normally written in English (in ever sphere). That is the reason why we (as teachers) have the tough task of fostering our students’ taste for reading for pleasure as well as for academic purposes.   Besides, it is important to highlight that reading habits determ...
